About
Sanjuro is an exciting martial art developed in London by Glenn Delikan in the 1980’s. Glenn’s background in kickboxing, dance and mixed martial arts has made Sanjuro into an effective form of defence and an impressive form of freestyle movement, coupled with an excellent way to stay fit.
The appeal of Sanjuro is its emphasis on finding the best way a technique works for each individual. The class format is layered in its structure and content, allowing the lessons to be performed in a very simple, or a highly technical manner without compromising the 3 founding principles called the E.A.D.
The Sanjuro E.A.D.
Effective as a system of self defence above all else
Accessible to as many people, in as many ways as possible
Developmental to the mind, body and spirit of the practitioner.
The nature of Sanjuro is inclusion. Instructors go by their first names and there is no hierarchy of grades in class. Everyone trains together and because of this you learn something from everyone.
Explosive strength and core stability training are essential components of each session and the ability to deliberately avoid striking an opponent during ‘Play’ (sparring) gives Sanjuro practitioners exceptional control.
Training is divided into 4 main parts:
Technique – learning and practicing.
Padwork – developing strength of the techniques.
Blitz – strength and flexibility training.
Play - practical application.
Beginners enjoy the accessibility of Sanjuro training.
Martial artists from other systems explore the freedom of expression that our training provides.
Families can keep fit and train together.
In addition, courses are run for special needs groups and regular workshops / self defence courses run throughout the year.
